For each rehearsal, we must have two chaperones present. One chaperone will be stationed between the lobby and the hallway with the bathrooms. This chaperone's job is to regulate activity in the bathroom and make sure that children are using it in an efficient way. More than one child is allowed in the bathroom at once as each staff member can allow one child to go to the bathroom at a time. This means that there could hypothetically be between five and eight kids using the restrooms at once, though this is unlikely. The only time the chaperone needs to intervene is if it sounds clear from the outside that kids are hanging out with their friends in the bathroom (screaming, turning lights off and on, etc).
The other chaperone will sit in the back of the auditorium to regulate the children who are supposed to be on stage but might be lurking around in the back corners. The chaperones don't have to discipline the children if they are in the wrong place; they merely have to direct them back to where they are supposed to be. If the kids don't listen and continue to misbehave, please inform the nearest staff member.
Chaperones will coordinate with each other upon arrival at rehearsal who sits outside the auditorium and who sits inside. If you prefer, you may switch positions during the middle of the shift.
While at rehearsal, chaperones may read, use laptops, or do anything else that won't distract the kids. Our only request is that you do not do anything that requires you to wear headphones as it is better if you can hear what's going on around you.
We would really appreciate it if every parent tries to help out with these shifts if their schedules allow it, though of course it is not mandatory. Below, you can fill out the form if you'd like to sign up for a shift online. After submitting this form, we will contact you via email detailing whether or not we need you on the days you specified.
Alternatively, you can sign up to chaperone in-person before or after rehearsals, or you can email us at [email protected].
Reminder: rehearsals are (generally) from 6:00-9:00pm Mondays through Thursdays. If your child is only scheduled for rehearsal until 8:00pm, it would still be very helpful for us if you could stay until 9:00. Your child is welcome to stay as well, and hopefully on most days, we will be able to find something for them to do, whether it is helping with various production elements (set design, costumes, etc), helping the directors, or simply observing rehearsals.
Thank you for your support!
